The Great Showdown

 By Starman

Movie: Heat

Synopsis: Heat is an action crime film released in the year 1995. It is directed by Michal Mann known for movies such as Hancock, Public Enemies and The Aviator. The film boasts an ensemble cast which includes Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, Jon Voight, Ashley Judd, Ted Levine and many more. It centers on the two main characters, a calm professional burglar(played by De Niro) and an explosive devoted policeman(played by Al Pacino). Neil McCauley is the mastermind of a group of criminals who carry out carefully planned heists. When a robbery turned into murder, a cat-and-mouse chase ensues between them and a newly assigned officer, Vincent Hanna.

Review: First of all, what an ensemble cast! Although many of them may still be unknown during the release of this film. Because of the number of characters, it became difficult  for me to keep track of the names of each one of them. Each one of them having their own story, which converges as the film progresses. The film is about 2 hours and 30 minutes long.

Great acting by everyone especially Al Pacino, whose outbursts always make me laugh. I liked his character's no-nonsense attitude. He explicitly showed this with one of my favorite lines in the movie, "Don't waste my motherf_____ time!". His delivery for every line was so intense. The battle of wits between his and Robert De Niro's character was very interesting. Their casual conversation would also tickle your brain.

The gunfight that occurred in the middle of the film is one of the best one that I've ever seen. They turned the whole L.A. into their battlefield. This is a movie that does not rely on its action scenes. I think this was the only action scene in the movie and it lasted for about 10-15 minutes.

Score: 10/10... An instant classic. Heat is not your typical action crime film. It mixes complex conversations with action-packed and suspenseful events.
