Obsessive Con-Pulsive Disorder

By Starman

Movie: Matchstick Men

Synopsis: This is a 2003 dramedy film directed by Ridley Scott(Blade Runner, American Gangster, Gladiator). Roy Walter(Nicolas Cage) is a con artist with an obsessive-compulsive disorder. He gets uncomfortable whenever he is outdoors. Together with his partner, Frank Mercer(Sam Rockwell), they trick people with their different schemes.
Everything was going well until Roy met his 14-year old daughter, Angela(Alison Lohman), from his ex-wife. He must now choose between his stable life as a con artist and his daughter.

Review: This is a very good movie. Nicolas Cage deserves a nomination for an award for his performance as a con-man with several mental disorders. Lohman looked exceptionally young in this movie considering that she was in her mid-20's. Her acting as a daughter longing for her father's affection also deserves praise. The father-daughter relationship between them is touching and entertaining at the same time. This is a well written film and directed by a great director. I always liked Ridley Scott's movies. The plot is fresh and I guarantee you that the ending will catch you off-guard.

Score: 9/10... If you are tired of conventional films, you have to watch Matchstick Men.
